saturday morning cartoons II

mcdonalds is offering there valentine coupons right now for $1 for 10 coupons. this is a great deal to utilize for your family for a quick meal out. i am sure that there are many places out there doing this for valentines for children. this is a great way to save some cash in the upcoming months. most of the coupons that i am finding are good through april or may. a way to use more than one coupon per visit is to let each child pay for their own meal. plus they love handling the important job of ordering their food and holding money.

organization oasis-sock drawer

each weekend i will post an organizational tip.
weekend assignment: sock drawers
a) pull out all socks that don't have a match. if you haven't found them yet you won't. your dryer ate the others. throw them away.
b) do the same with anything that has a hole.
c) fold socks together and group according to color.
d) if you have the cash flow buy a sock organizer and make rows of color. if not just make imaginary rows in your drawer. i usually go from darkest to lightest. you will be amazed at how quickly you can find what you need with an organized sock drawer. if you feel adventurous do this for the whole family. it won't take long. involve the kids. let them watch you do your drawer and then turn them loose on theirs.
the key to keeping things organized is to put things back the way you found them. once you do this you won't have to do it again if you put things back where they belong. why do i hear my mother's voice echoing in my ears?

the great expectation

why is it that i expect more out of my children than i expect of myself? if i have the expectation of A behavior 80-85% of the time, shouldn't i also be mimicing or exceeding those expectations? boy, i have some work to do. i am going to have to start with going to bed at a deceit hour so i am at least somewhat pleasant before 9. yes, i am still working on this goal! i am getting up and functioning. it is the pleasant part i have to get a grip on. i am so thankful my heavenly father is much more understanding than me.
Proverbs 1:2-7
To know wisdom and instruction,
To perceive the words of understanding,
To receive the instruction of wisdom,
Justice, judgment, and equity;
To give prudence to the simple,
To the young man knowledge and discretion—
A wise man will hear and increase learning,
And a man of understanding will attain wise counsel,
To understand a proverb and an enigma,
The words of the wise and their riddles.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge,
But fools despise wisdom and instruction.

tidy it up

ok so i am sick of looking at my feet every time i read a new comment so i am posting for that reason alone. i am going to try and post a weekly organizational tip, a weekly decorating tip that will include reusing and recycling, and a weekly "thrifty" something. for those of that have commented, i promised to share my favorite things about each of you, here they are....

m: i like you brown eyes too, but more than that i love that i can always count on truth from you. even if you risk offending, you speak it and there is no question where you stand. never change my ouiser, and never doubt that part of you is a blessing! love you

sally: in our short time of learning about one another, i have come to love your passion for the Lord. although we do share many similarities I most want to demonstrate to others the same passion you do about our savior.

louann: i love your questions and your drive and desire to do things the right way. you keep up the diligent work. call me about your stacking questions.

TNPLH: our friendship has grown through our love of decorating and in the same style no less. your precious spirit is evident in everything that you do. you are always willing to make things easy and simplify life for others. i am in hopes to repay you in the same way in the coming years. plus my children love you!

Amy: you are such a gentle person. i can tell by the way your work with the children at church. so kind and gracious. i also admire how much you treasure your husband. it is truly a blessing to love and to be loved in return. how many women without thinking say their husband is their best friend. i love that! you keep him there and life will always be good even when it's tough.

PS...i'll let you know who won in the morning

love you all

g is 3...invest

last week we celebrated our baby's 3rd birthday. i can't believe how the time has slipped through my hands. like sand through the hourglass these are the days of our lives (haha). why do i feel like i am back in college sitting in the lounge during lunch? anyway back to the topic at hand, our baby is three. i am having some real issues with this.

1. i have always had a baby in the house for almost 7 years.

2. i am not ready to be babyless

3. i can't believe how time really does go so quickly.

how in the big scheme of things my life is really only a blip on the radar. so realizing that, how do i really make it count. here are my thoughts in one word, invest!

~invest in the lives of others so that they see Jesus in me, and want to know about Him

~invest in my children each and everyday so there is no doubt of my overflowing love for them

~invest in my husband so he knows and never questions how appreciated he is

~invest my time, talents, and money (how little or much) i happen to have in items and activities of worth. honestly, i don't need another sweater, and neither do the kids for that matter!

~invest in my parents and in-laws. they gave me life and my husband. there's something to be said about that.

~invest in my friends. show and tell them they are loved. why are we so timid about saying that we love our friends. i don't know where i would be without them. and i often tell them so. make a treat and drop it off, paint a wall for a friend, watch a child, take a gal to lunch, listen.

~invest!

isn't it funny how the third birthday of your baby gets ya to preaching to yourself and others for that matter:). thanks for listening. i'm still having issues with the no baby thing and probably will until i hit menopause or death. i am just knowing that God's plan for me is perfect whether it's with 3 babies or 10.

order is restored

ok, i am all for a project around the house but it is often bitter sweet because with a project always comes a mess. my anal retentive, everything must be in its place personality does not do well with this situation. however, once order returns all is well and i am always thankful i was able to make it through the chaos. (i know it is very concerning that i am like this. at least i recognize it about myself). anyway here is the latest home improvement thanks to the love of my life. the pantry is done. the laundry room is not. but at least i do not have half of a small gas station scattered about the playroom. i will post more pictures of the project once everything is finished. one more thing. i need some creative help. i want to put a frosted glass door at the entrance of the laundry/pantry and i need a all encompassing word to put on the door. i just don't think that lantry is going to cut it.

Lamentations 3:22-23
22 Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.
23 They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

i love mornings like this one. everyone is home, the earth is white, clean, pure. i am overwhelmed by Gods great love for me. His goodness and greatness.
my gratitude cannot be contained.

new sidebar

1. i am trying to find a way for all of us to benefit from each others coupon clipping. if there is a certain brand that you use all the time or your children need please comment to this post and i will list it. i will be the "catch all" for the coupons and redistribute them to the people who use the brands. please try to help out the coupon community by watching for the brands that are listed to the side as we know how they can save some serious money. also if you see a particular coupon in the paper on a certain week that you would like to have more of, comment on the most recent post and i will add it to the list.

2. i removed some of the sites from coupon corner because i did not think that they were that user friendly and not beneficial. i did add a few more and i will continue to look for ones that are super coupon sites.

3. i am going to add the cottonelle toliet paper link to the side bar under coupon corner for the free toliet paper.

4. lexington gals feel free to comment on the brands that you need as well. i will label them with a (lex) behind the brand and maybe shannon can be the catch all for you. or if another of you would like to be the catch all that would be great. sunday would be a great time to switch at church.

the beautiful bottle

this little beauty is the key to saving yourself some major money for cleaning products. i have two of these that i use to clean the majority of our home. for countertops, windows, mirrors, kitchen table, and bathroom fixtures i use a mixture of dawn dishwashing liquid and water. for windows and mirrors use approximately 7 drops for a small water bottle like the picture above. for larger bottles add a little more. use the lesser amount to avoid streaking. for all of the other above surfaces i mix a little more soap to have a little more cleaning power. to disinfect, i use a bleach and water mixture in the same type of bottle. usually about 10% bleach 90% water. i use this mixture to clean toilets, kill germs, and wipe down kitchen handles and cabinet knobs. really the only other cleaning products that i use in my house are toilet bowl cleaner, and an occasional scrubbing bubbles on the bathtubs. i also have on hand some lysol for the computer keyboards, and toys after sickness.
all told i purchase 3 cleaning products. i even use the dawn and water mixture in my hardwood floor cleaner. just a few drops of dawn. not much! works like a charm and sure beats buying those expensive cleaners.

win this on wednesday

technically the winner will be announced on thurday but you all can knock yourselves out commenting on wednesday. up for grabs is a southern living at home apron personalized with your monogram. to enter this contest tell me one or more of the goals that you would like to accomplish this year. one of my goals this year is to stay well under my budget each month. it is not much money but i should be able to do well especially with the grocery game. another goal, is to get up each morning ready for the day. this will by far be my challenging goal. i usually do not like to talk to anyone before 9 and even then it is more of a mumble than audible words. obviously i need a little work in this department. the third and most important is to spend time talking to God everday. it is so easy for me to get busy and not make time to spend with the one who cares for me most in the world. so type away and tell me your goals. the winner will be decided using a random number selection devise(my husband choosing a number between 1 and the number of comments received).

three tips

i have learned three new things this week with the coupons. first, i think that the best strategy at places like Walgreens and CVS is to use your register reward or ECB's first when checking out before you give the cashier any other coupons. the reason for this is that some of them have dollar values that you have to spend attached to the reward. example, receive $5 off your next $15 purchase. if you wait until the end to use the RR or ECB's your total may not be $15. but at the beginning it most likely will before your other coupons. the other interesting thing is that stores will give you back money with manufacters coupons but will not refund RR or ECB money. so tip #1 use RR and ECB's first. don't even hand the cashier your other coupons before they scan those.

tip #2 watch walgreens this week on the amount of register rewards that you receive for the unilever deal if you are going to participate in it. i purchased 8 items which should have given me a $10 RR. however, when my rewards came out there was only a $2 RR. the reasoning was that with all of the other coupons that i used the dollar amount spent did not merit a $10 RR. when pushed a little about an amount that needed to be spent being NO WHERE in there ad they gave me a paper form to fill out for the $10 RR that i will have to receive by mail.

tip #3 if you forget to use a coupon that you have for an item at kroger, you can take the coupon the next time you go along with your receipt to customer service and they will refund your money for the amount of the coupon. this happened to me last night. the amount of coupons in my kroger pouch was on overflow mode and somehow they pushed their way into my walgreens pouch. the horror! anywho, i took my receipt back today with those suckers that tried to escape me in the walgreens pouch and they refunded my $12.75.

just thought you might want to know:)

a kroger affair to remember

whew, last night was a late one. the list was up early and i was so excited about all the coupons i had for this week, i went. let me just start off by saying, my receipt is over 3 feet long. i bought a boat load of stuff. i saved $116.00 using coupons and loading them to my card. i spent $111.11. now that is alot of money for me to spend at this point in the game, but i had so many coupons that combined with sale items that i couldn't resist. b finally said to me last night, ok, next week only buy things that are 50 cents or cheaper and fruit. my response was, i think i did that this week. and i was pretty close. it was a fun night. i filled up the entire kitchen table with bags and still had to put some on the counter top. it's gonna be a fun day of grocery shopping! tell me the reports later:)

btw: if you forget to give some coupons to kroger you can take your receipt back and they will credit you the amount if you purchased the item. just thought that might help.

good friends

you know i really think that so often i forget how blessed i am in the friend department. maybe it is not so much that i forget, i am just amazed at how good GOD has been to me. i could not ask for any better. i don't deserve them. then again, i don't deserve any of the belssings that i have been given (reality check). they are all so different and meet my needs in so many ways. i really can't imagine my life without a single one of them. i am surrounded by a circle that continually grows stronger. what a blessing to my life. what a gift. what precious gifts!

onions

talk about bittersweet. onions, i love them in recipes, in salads, on sandwiches, etc. but i HATE cutting onions. they make my cry, even though i take out the core, they smell up the kitchen, and it takes so much time when trying to quickly whip something together. so here is my solution. you all have probably already thought of this. i am a little slow on things. i buy a bag of onions, cut the entire bag at once, and wipe mascara off my face for approximately 40 minutes or so, slight exaggeration. after i chop all the onions, i put them in a glass pyrex bowl and place them in the freezer. then whenever i need a small amount of onions for a recipe, out comes the bowl. i scoop a little out and wha-la, no onion chopping, no running mascara, oh the joy! put the bowl back in freezer and there is plenty more for later.

declaring your praise

Psalm 51: 15 O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise.

on the birthday of my king, Jesus Christ, our oldest child, asked Jesus to enter his heart and rule his life. as a parent that loves Jesus and desires her children to know Him the way she does, there is no greater day. we had sat down as a family after dinner to read the book, what God wants for christmas, which by the way i would highly recommend. not because i think that is what caused "w" to ask Jesus into his heart, but because it is a wonderful book that clearly lays out the meaning of christmas in a childlike way with some serious biblical backbone. i love serious biblical backbone. after finishing the book W said, i think that we should all ask Jesus in our hearts. i love childlike faith. it is humbling and profound at the same time. if only i could believe like he does. W chose to pray on his own in his room by himself. he wanted to share that time with God alone. he had made a decision that will lead to a journey. the greatest journey any one person can choose to take. W is so confident when he shares the decision that he made. i am certain God has great things in store for my son, and now brother, in the kingdom of God.

walgreens will never be the same

last night i went to do my weekly shop night at walgreens. this is a relatively new thing for me. i started clipping coupons, shopping serious sales, and creating a stockpile store at our house about 5 weeks ago. the sales at walgreens this week are incredible especially combined with coupons many of the items are FREE or nearly free. most of the items are the brands that i already used before the new adventure began. here is the lowdown. i purchased $176.00 of merchandise for $71.60 plus I received $5.00 back in register rewards to use next week. they also overcharged me by $6.00 so i will return to get my refund. total out of pocket expense for $176.oo was $60.60. i am amazed. let me know if you want to know how to do this. i will be happy to help you. this is just another way to provide for your family and invest the money God has so graciously given in a wise manner. love you all!

coupon sites

here are the sites that i use to collect other coupons that i combine with the coupons that i find in the paper. most stores will allow you to use multiple coupons for the same item if they are not the exact same coupon. this is how you can get items for free or nearly close to free. happy clipping.

also one other tip...if you shop at walgreens you have to redeem the coupons in the walgreens flyer to get the coupon price. the coupon items do not ring up on sale. the sale items do. you can also combine other coupons with the walgreens coupons.

mark these as favorites and check them every week.
