teacher gifts

i found these lovely little gems at the christmas tree shoppe. i never would have stepped foot in the store had it not been for an ad that i received in the mail with some cute flip flops on the front. (i'll show you those tomorrow). anyway, these little numbers were screaming my name from across the aisle. they are utensil holders but i think they make the perfect end of the year teacher gift stuffed with all kinds of goodies and personalized with their initials.

cracker house

here is our new "old" house for our crackers. they really used to have it right. airtight storage for something that gets soggy. what a great idea! so much for those that think we get smarter with each generation. what do you think?

w's room

w had a denim comforter on his bed that had seen its better days. he was still using his pillows from his crib. it was time for a bigger boy get up with out breaking the bank on a total room redo. the solution...repurpose the duvet at the bottom of our bed to his bed and i think it looks better in his room than it did in ours. its always nice to redo and spend nothing. i used his old comforter to fill the duvet cover that i made for g's room last week. see those stripes on the wall in the picture, they couldn't match the comforter better!

now i just have to decide what to do in our room...the bed is looking pretty bare.

g's green gingham

i attached the curtain to the window with velcro and connected the straps with velcro so they are easily raised and lowered.

finally made the duvet for g's room out of two curtains that i found at the pottery barn outlet. used the bed skirt from older brother's room. used some scrap fabric for the curtains. finally have a finished product 4 years in the making:)

rest your rear hear

i found these stools at the thrift store yesterday.
they both looked like the one on the right.
you know...hunter green bottom with that lovely light colored wood seat.
for some it may work...not so much for me.
the picture above is after the stools were sanded and one was already finished and then i remembered..."the before and after" picture. at least i remembered before it was all done.
seat on the left sanded down, roughed up with a screw driver and a mallet, and then stained with a walnut stain (several coats). it looks really good in person.
i am not sure the pictures do it justice.

here are both stools finished and waiting for a couple more friend stools. i am looking for 2
or 3 more. i also plan on numbering the top of the seats once we have all that
we are going to put in the space.

what thrifty find have you found lately?

bippity boppity switch a-roo

i picked and put some different spring/summer decor throughout the house this past weekend. this time of year is always a little tricky because really it is not summer yet so too many over the top bright colors is not what i choose to use right now but we have definitely transitioned from little woodland creatures(bunnies) and eggs. the white pitchers have been passed down from my great grandmother to my grandmother to my mother and now to me....man am i a blessed girl
i dried these gorgeous hydrangeas earlier this year. on accident of course, they just sat in the vase too long, ran out of water, and made themselves gorgeous.
can't take any credit for that one.

shells from our last trip to florida
dollar store bird on one of my favorite decorating pieces of all time. so versatile.

that harmonica was mr. dc's granddaddy's
so was the camera

some old books grouped by color are always a point of interest. use some you have or watch estate sales. old books are fascinating to look at and read.
