the post-it princess

go HERE to find all kinds of organizing tips
keeping little miss' room organized is always a challenge. kids rooms are by far the worst in regard to organization. what i have found is that everything HAS TO HAVE A PLACE!!! and the kids need to know the place, because the goal is for them to keep the room organized.
she scribbles, creates, colors, fluffs, tucks, trims...the girl is a bundle of creative genius. along with that comes the endless sheets of paper, post-its, receipts, stickers all tucked in their "proper" place. you get the picture. deep cleaning the post-it princess' room cannot happen when she is around, so yesterday while she was at school i seized the morning. here are the results.

re purpose a quilt into a shower curtain

those green shutters have ladybug buttons climbing around the corner

the butterflies were purchased at pier one and they were a rusty brown color. mr. dc helped me paint them before the post-it princess was born.

we use her kitchen to store all kinds of toys that she plays with. everything from my little ponies to her magnetic wooden dolls. i save old baby wipes bins to store all her little toy pieces.

bins are an ideal way to help little ones find a quick place for odds and end toys. not everything will have a place that makes sense. the bins are great for those things.

fluff added by the pip(post-it princess)

this is in the closet. helps with all the papers. i see these things are yard sales all the time. they are great for all areas of the house. especially painted a fun color. i have labeled some of the sections so she knows where to fill certain papers. ex. church, kindergarten, 1st grade, creations, cards, etc.

bought the rack at a thrift shop for 50 cents. a coat of white paint and some pink curling ribbon did wonders.

aside: to her credit, she does wonderful job keeping her room tidy, but at some point some of the papers must go. our recycling man will have an excessive amount of paper next go around. hopefully the post-it princess does not see the bin before he comes:)

and on to the kitchen...

i just love the clean, crisp look of all white in a cabinet
but i also can say enough about vintage pyrex and the slight addiction that i have involving this form of culinary genius.

more pictures to feed the addiction (most of the storage containers that i have are currently in the frig). i use the refrigerator containers (vintage pyrex) to store all of our leftovers. my favorite pattern is amish butterprint turquoise.

and then there are the kids cups. don't get me wrong...i have not received a more precious gift than our children, but these kids cups are just not very conducive to organization:) but i will keep them, relish them, because that means my little ones are still little. and that my friends is worth far more than organization.

organizing the meds

i have been very concerned about where we keep our medicine. i had the motrin, kids meds, and any type of super harmful drug up high but our vitamins were just in a kitchen cabinet. now that our children can scale the countertops i decided that it was time to keep them under a little more lock and key (for my own peace of mind, and the fact that our four year old who has no concern with rule following, decided to eat about 1/3 of the whole foods based kids vitamins the other day. thank the Lord they were not toxic when taking to many! so here was the organizing project today. i chose to label the small bins for quick access when dealing with a particular aliment.
btw...the red box is filled with different herbs, vitamins, etc. (not medicine) do not panic your not dealing with a drug addicted blogger on the other end of the screen. we just like our natural supplements:)

kroger this week

if you are having a hard time finding the electrosol tabs(20 ct.) that end up being 49 cents this week they have them at the mall road kroger. they also have the quaker quakes that are free and the 2/$4 lightbulbs that you can get for $1 a piece using either the manufacturers coupon for reveal lightbulbs (GE) or the target printable that is a manufacturers with a target logo. just an fyi...

one more tip...if you need a couple items to put you over the top for the mega event goldfish are the way to go...they are only 88 cents a bag. i usually take a bag or two up with me and that way if i am short an item or two and can still save the $5. if i don't need it i just hand it to the cashier and ask her/him to put it back.

also your mento gum coupons are about to expire. they are on sale for 1.29 this week so with the coupon they are 29 cents a piece.

did you spy any great finds?

He's got the whole world in His hands

scripture from the infallible word of God is in ivory. my thoughts are pink. couldn't help but ponder these scriptures with the craziness that seems to be all around. the unrest, the lack of peace, and the fear that people possess.

Psalm 2
1 Why are the nations so angry? Why do they waste their time with futile plans?
2 The kings of the earth prepare for battle; the rulers plot together against the Lord and against his anointed one.
3 “Let us break their chains,” they cry, “and free ourselves from slavery to God.”
4 But the one who rules in heaven laughs. The Lord scoffs at them.
5 Then in anger he rebukes them, terrifying them with his fierce fury.
6 For the Lord declares, “I have placed my chosen king on the throne in Jerusalem, on my holy mountain.”
7 The king proclaims the Lord’s decree: “The Lord said to me, ‘You are my son. Today I have become your Father.
8 Only ask, and I will give you the nations as your inheritance, the whole earth as your possession.
9 You will break them with an iron rod and smash them like clay pots.’”
10 Now then, you kings, act wisely! Be warned, you rulers of the earth!
11 Serve the Lord with reverent fear, and rejoice with trembling.
12 Submit to God’s royal son, or he will become angry, and you will be destroyed in the midst of all your activities— for his anger flares up in an instant.

He knows the past, the present, and the future. He knows the incredibly poor choices that the world will continue to make year after year. He knows the few good ones that will be made along the way too! He alone is in control, no president, no king, no movie star.

12 b)But what joy for all who take refuge in him!

and then look at this promise from Philippians 3

20But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.

i should not fear the future, the events, the times, the evil, the curses that run through this world of ours. my Savior is on the throne of it all. He knows it all, and controls it! He is good and merciful to those who take refuge in Him. Have a day filled with the peace and the joy of the Lord today!

I Still Like Bologna

this little country ditty by allan jackson reminds me of the idea of repurposing timeless pieces into useful, functional items that make life simpler. it is an essential part to organizing that will help you spend much less money in the process.

repurposing by definition is to use or convert for use in another format or product. i used an old soda pop crate to organize my file folders with loose paper work that needed a place. i picked the crate up at an estate sale for 50 cents. always be on the lookout for crates, bins, and functional baskets at estate or yard sales. they can always be given a fresh look with a coat of paint or a fabric liner. plus their character often adds a certain amount of charm to your decor.
recently we also installed some doors between our family room area which is open and tends to be a bit noisy because of the tall ceiling and the children's area of the house. these door were rescued from the trash. they had been removed from 2 local houses in our area and i just could not stand to see them pitched. we had been planning for a long time to purchase doors for this space but with some elbow grease and some time my man was able to repurpose the doors to further add to the functionality of our home to meet our specific needs.
organizing is really an ongoing love affair with the space that you have been so graciously blessed with. it is a balance of everything having a place, to your family functioning on a schedule that works for you and promotes peace within your home.

what have you repurposed lately?

clean up, clean up

everybody, everywhere. clean up, clean up, everybody do your share. our little ones sing this song. i think it is very fitting for organizing products to clean yourself with.

if you have been stockpiling it is really important to keep track of the things that you have so you do not waste money buying if it is not necessary, unless it is free. here are some pictures of the two cabinets that i organize our shampoo, conditioner, soap, hair styling products and razors. i chose to stack like products in a row so i stay aware of the amount of certain products that we have plenty of and those i need to watch for good deals.
