mr.dc's laundry room redo

this laundry room is one of our friends. she bid on a 5 hours certificate for mr. dc's help around her house at a silent auction that our school hosts each year. the following are picture of the final product. i am amazed at the difference and amazed at just how blessed mr. dc is.
that little molding will have knobs to hang towels or wet things from.

all cabinetry and moldings designed and built by mr. dc

its hard to get over the before and after. so much more efficient use of space and beauty in one room. i think mr. dc did a great job. what do you think?

ps...i am cracking up right now because my father-in-law who sometimes can't figure out how to send an email just asked to be mr. dc's friend on facebook. you might have to know him to think this is funny...but it really is.

clutterville

today's real life breakdown...
the laundry room is for laundry. i thought that after the laundry room HERE was redone i would like to do laundry. not so. i like it better now but like is a little too strong of a word for how i feel about it. it is however a necessary task when you are the domestic engineer in a home with 3 children who wear at least 2 outfits a day and a husband that works out, dresses up, gets comfortable, and might work on a project during the course of the day! yes you counted right, 4 outfits for the man. yet i am finding myself re-wearing my clothes at least once. the irony!

so here is my theory. i have this huge infatuation with a laundry room that has no laundry in it, because laundry is clutter. but the thing is that it is a laundry room...for laundry...its intended purpose is laundry. i think that i have been so trained by southern living and country living to desire that clutter free space that when it is not, all is not right. i know that is entirely too anal to be sharing and you all probably think that i am a nut job, but i am just keeping things real. you should know the inner workings of my mind on the topic of laundry.

so i took the thought process a whole step further to our perceptions of not only the perfect laundry room, what about the perfect house, does that make it a home? if the people that abide there are not content, do not care for one another or enjoy each other, does the decor matter?

then take it one step further, the perfect body. if the person that is on the inside of that body is discontent with who they are, they are miserable in their own skin, they are empty inside. does the slender waist, sculpted legs, and perky chest really sum up their parts and happiness in life?

see look what laundry does to me... as my mind drifts off to the idea of an organized, clutterless laundry room. what do you all think? what is your clutterville right now? what are you looking at and relating to a bigger issue?

these are a few of my favorite things

before you think that i have totally fallen of my rocker...laundry is NOT one of my favorite things. however, it is a necessity that is not going away anytime soon. i decided about a year ago when we took on the laundry room project it was going to be filled with favorite things because i spend so much time in there. i want to show you what my precious husband has done for me. i really married up. here is the reveal. we still have to install the faucet at the sink
but that is on back order.
vintage washboard collection, some from his great aunt and uncle's estate
vintage glass door knobs to hold the ironing board and line dry items

cabinets made by hand with "vintage style" latches and hinges
carrara marble tile counter tops
and storage...lots of storage

look at the lines of the molding at the top of the pantry. i love the dimension.

plenty of storage
do you notice a theme with the storage:)

fun window treatment with ribbons

what projects are you working on? i would love to see them! email me pictures.

clothes hook

my desire for a clothes line has not been quenched however there is no need to wallow in self pity over the line. meet the clothes hook. better known as a hanging plant hook. the fresh air blowing through my clothes on my clothes hook. can you tell that i am trying to convince myself that the clothes hook is a worthy substitute. i am working on contentment. still working! at this rate i might have one load dry by 3 pm tomorrow.
