fun desserts last week

alton brown's blueberry buckle. best blueberry dessert that i have ever eaten, by a far! find it HERE. and make it. rush home...no stop and pick up some blueberries then rush home whip it up and devour it. you may want to make a double batch because you will want one all to yourself:)
these were a result of the brownie competition. my personal favorite was the good old mini muffin brownies. i like them because there was a ton of crust. and i could eat more than one (seven) and feel ok about myself...they were mini...

the kids loved the sprinkles and whipped cream on these little guys.

brownie experiment

results will be posted later but here is the prep for the competition.

cast iron scalloped edge pan
cast iron corn bread pan
regular sized muffin pan
mini muffin pan

we have been wanting to do a brownie competition of sorts. i like crust. lots of crust. but you can't be selfish and only make brownies for yourself with a family of 5. so today is testing day.
how do you like your brownies?

good deals to be had

pictured above: lands end tank. one hanging in my closet.

i know that i have taken a little different direction with the blog lately and have not been posting as many deals...hope that's ok...i figure there are enough blogs out there that are attached to mine that have all of them listed if you are interested. if you would like me to bring back some of the deals that i find unbeatable comment and i will start it up again. i just didn't want to be redundant. i will tell you that now and the next couple of weeks are a great time to get out there and get some good deals on summer clothing for the family for this year and next. i have snagged several good deals lately. while snagging these deals i also found out that sephora is coming to our local jcpenny. what a great little gem in the midst of worthington and st. john's bay. i'm not knocking any clothing lines when i say that, goodness knows i am no fashionista. i do love the american living line at pennys. super cute, washes great, and really comfy!

back to the deals...
i have found some deals at Land's End (Sears store)
Gymboree (oh my...deals to be had there on last years winter lines)
Stride Rite (clearance shoes on the table outside)
JC Pennys

What about you all? Have you found any good ones recently? Don't be shy, let us know!

a gift from a friend

this may not seem like an extravagant gift to most but to me it meant the world. these are my favorites and if you have been following this blog for any length of time you know the untimely death that approximately 5 endless hydrangea bushes have experienced at the suburban farm. the gift...means so much because this friend knows me, and it was a gift for no reason...just because, and this friend well she is just that kind of girl who knows when another girl could use a hydrangea. love you friend!

i know that i have been a little absent lately, and truthfully the entire summer will probably be a little hit and miss at the domestic chick. oh i will be posting don't get me wrong but it might be 3 posts in one day and then 3 days may go by and nothing...i am sure that you all are just crushed at the thought :). obviously i do not think that you are on the other side of your computer waiting with bated breath for me to let you know what is going on over here. well this picture and this place should tell you alot. many an hour has been spent in the garden so far this spring and summer. alot of other fun things have gone on too...but this little space sure does take alot of time. the kids are really enjoying it though and it is so educational and we are amazed at God and His creation and what we can learn from the garden.
on a side note, don't you just love my color coordinated outfit of grey shorts and a brown and white striped t-shirt and the way my hair is making that nice little "X" on my forehead. i am shocked that organic gardening has not contacted me for the front cover, aren't you? it hasn't stopped mr. dc from wanting to squeeze here and there though. i know i should be thankful but i really do not understand how one could be attracted to another when the other looks like the above picture. seriously!
well this post has been all over the place. that is what you get when you start typing in the morning and end the post at 10 pm with all kinds of things that go on during the course of the day at the suburban farm.

counter balance

this was the counter balance for the gazillion chocolate dipped pretzels i ate the other day.

strawberries and spinach from the garden
pecans from a family friends tree in TN
balsamic dressing made from scratch with just a few ingredients, but boy was it yummy!
just trying to counter balance some of the ridiculousness of the pretzels
because i just can't say no to them.

a weakness of mine

these are delightful...they were first found on a homegoods clearance rack in st. louis by one of my dearest friends. she busted those puppies open and we browsed the aisle munching on the goodness of salty and sweet. it may have been one of the more enjoyable homegoods trips i have experienced.

since they are not easy to find, and they are usually not on the clearance rack, and i ravished (like a wild beast) through a package of them that i found at homegoods a few weeks ago we made some for ourselves yesterday.

let me STRONGLY recommend you making yourself some! S-T-R-O-N-G-L-Y!!!!

we used ghirardelli milk chocolate chips and they were fantastic, in fact there are none left. i am currently considering making more here in the next 5 minutes or so, no let's make that now(i have no control over myself or will power). hold on, i be back in about 20...
ok i'm back (surely i can handle finishing this post before the lack of self control takes over)

i think these will be part of our christmas gifts to our friends this year. i can just see these little lovelies nestled in a tin with some waxed paper cut with some fancy edges.

let me know if you make some of these little goodies because goodness knows i won't be able to share mine until christmas when i will have to because that's just what you do at christmas time.
